Site Survey Web App

Client: Spirit Communications

Problem: New tools needed for a complicated process - to help simplify it

Spirit Communications installs voice, data, and now gigabit fiber for businesses. Their original sales to install process was to have a salesperson fill out a Site Survey spreadsheet, submit it digitally via Sharepoint. A sales technician would then go back and fill in all of the missing information, and resubmit the form. Then a third-party installer would be given this information (not always the original document), and try to understand where and how to install the new service... usually with incomplete information... leading to multiple trips, and upset customers.

The original project was just to design a web app with the same fields of the spreadsheet - we ended up, through many iterations in the IA phase, building something much more comprehensive, and useful for our client. We designed a web application that allows for simplicity, but also accountability so that the process can be completed quicker, easier, and so the end user customer is satisfied.

The design ended up being secondary to helping Spirit figure out the process. Two thirds of the project was spent in information gathering, user story and flow, wireframing, prototyping and user testing (the rest design / development).
